In my previous post, I mentioned the "Open Studio" concept and how it gives students a chance to explore different mediums to find what they are most comfortable using to express themselves creatively. During an Open Studio, students have stations that they may work at for the entire class or they may bounce between a couple of different ones. All Open Studios have a theme or a prompt for the sessions, so the students have a starting point. I serve as more of a facilitator during these sessions, making sure materials are being used properly and guiding students through solving problems that may arise with their artwork. This is time for them to build their creative and problem solving muscles. The last Open Studio we had was set up for students to create an artwork for a competition. Below are links to the contests that were featured in this Open Studio. Click on the name of the competition for more information. Be sure to watch this space and our Artsonia page. I will post the entries on Artsonia and update on here any awards that are won.

Next week, we will be studying contour line and observational drawing. Students will be able to try different mediums as they practice these different kinds of drawing.
